Analysing unemployed and uneducated young people for the Capital Region of Denmark

The Capital Region of Denmark (which comprises of 29 municipalities including Copenhagen) is home to approximately 30% of Denmark's population.

The administrative region also employs 36,000 people, making it one of Denmark´s largest employers. 

ADDRESSING THE ISSUES

About 30,000 of 15-30 year olds in the Capital Region of Denmark are neither in education nor in work. In total, this group represents 8% of the region's total population.

Epinion was engaged to analyse the people behind the statistics. 

THE APPROACH

The analysis employed quantitative and qualitative methods, drawing on virtually every method within the field of market research in order to gain a picture of more than 350,000 young people in the region.

Methods used included:

  • Analysis of national census data information about all young people between the age of 15 and 30 in The Capital Region of Denmark, including socio-demographics, education, employment and family background.
  • Questionnaire survey of 232 young people without a job or an education.
  • Personal interviews with professionals in the education and employment system and employees in the municipal administrations and in educational institutions.
  • Personal interviews with young people without a job or an education. Six interviews are presented in the report in form of articles.

impact

The knowledge provided by the analysis provides a solid foundation for cooperation between regional actors involved in youth education and employment and created a stronger platform for launching effective, relevant initiatives.

The analysis was conducted by Epinion, Pluss Leadership and CEFU (Danish Centre for Youth Research).
